The General meeting of the American Legion DEPARTMENT OF TEXAS — EIGHT DISTRICT was called to order at

9am on OCTOBER 07, 2017 by Richard Vorhies.

Motion to accept minutes as presented by Pat Yancey seconded by Joanna Quintero Passed

Finance Report

Finance report read by Dwight Rumph Motion to accept finance report subject to future audit by Robert Moore Seconded by Ted

Ritzer Passed.

Motion by Gary Alston to leave how to pay for district hotel costs the way to the present finance officer and how they feel is the

easiest way for them to do it. Seconded by George Snell Passed.

Motion to accept finance report Robert seconded by Pat Yancey Passed.

Visitors / Guest

Bret Watson running for state vice commander post 0163, 17th district, discussed why he was running for the position and his plans to help the Legion.

Jeff Perkins running for Department Commander. Why he wanted to be the Department Commander. He discussed his food program and other programs he is involved with.

Lotus Project Catholic Social services was presented a flag for their building. They covered the 3 different programs they run which are, 1. Pathways to hope, 2. Homeless program, 3. Lotus Project. They invited anyone to stop by a tour there facility anytime.

Post Reports

Each post present gave a short report of what they do and have been doing for membership. As well as what they need help with and what is working for their post.

 

District Membership report given by Pat Yancey 560 Goal = 386 at 342, 324 Goal = 173 at 105, 127 Goal = 183 at 111, humble Goal = 187 at 107, 658 Goal = 373 at 165, 323 Goal = 118 at 46, 644 Goal = 74 at 28, 586 Goal = 108 at 37, 578 Goal = 244 at 40, 397 Goal = 67 at 9, 499 Goal = 50 at 3.

Richard talked about doing post revitalization for some posts at post 658 soon. Then doing another on the other side of town for the other posts. Jersey village and Humble would be working to see about starting a new post in the spring. Consolidated report and post certification was mentioned that needed to be done and turned in at the end of the year without those reports the posts do not qualify for any awards.

Wayne Huebner Discussed the Oratorical contest and the Boys state Program. And recruiting of his post by their Commander and Adjutant. Boy’s state transportation is $75.00 per person round trip.
